It feels like skill just doesn't matter much.Īlso, opponents will pass you even if you're at maximum speed and driving the same car. You will only ever be 2 seconds behind or 2 seconds ahead at most no matter how well you driver or if you wreck your opponent in a duel. (1) Hardest rubber banding I've ever seen in a racing game Sure, you can skip most of it but after making me wait to reload the level fully each time I restart a game, why do I need to watch 2-3 seconds of cutscene? (5) Also, for racing game, why do you make me watch a cutscene each time I reset? You open the start menu, wait for the animation to play, tweak a setting like brightness or audio, close the menu, and then hit a wall because you have no control of your car immediately after closing the menu. (4) The Start Menu takes a full second to open and then when closed… you can’t control your car for another full second? Draw distance and playing in handheld already makes this a chore but not being able to see because the game puts wholly unnecessary text up is salt in the wound. But, that’s no longer possible because the white text telling you that you earned 200 bounty has completely blocked the cop cars in the roadblock making it impossible to see the gap. So you’ve made an take down and been forced to watch the frustrating slow motion replay of it? Well, now that you’re back in the race, and you’re fortunate to still have time to maneuver through a police roadblock. (3) If it’s not interruptions to the game, it’s the other bullshit blocking your view Were you just about to try to thread the needle of a roadblock? Shame that the AI doesn’t care and you come back to the race smashing into a parked cop car. I get this is Burnout’s thing but this isn’t Burnout.Īlso, a new cop joins the pursuit? Better show that in slow motion too and break the race up for no reason. Other times, you’re 10 feet away from running directly into a wall. Sure sometimes, you come back mid-drift and can take over and finish the turn. But even worse, while this is happening, your car goes into a brief autopilot mode and the results are generally crap. Constantly, focus is broken to see the physics engine struggle in vain to show how a car crashing at 200+ MPH might flip (or not). For some reason beyond my understanding, the game needs to stop the action literally every time to show you a slow-motion view of a cop or opponent crashing should you hit or clip them. In each game, you can do things like take downs or hitting spike strips to earn small amounts of bounty in the range of 200. Most races give you around 10,000 for first. The game uses bounty as the “currency” by which progress is made. It feels great like you’ve entered warp-speed despite being nothing more than nitrous on steroids. That’s the whole point and it’s missing entirely.įrankly the only time you actually feel this is when you use the “Turbo” during a pursuit. Otherwise, there's no blur or anything to make you feel like you’re flying. The only indication that you’re going that fast is the speedometer and sluggishness of turning. I feel no difference traveling 110 vs 210 MPH. This has to be the worst thing you can say about a racing game. I hope this helps others considering getting this game. I've chosen to rank my issues from "Unforgivable Sins" to mere things that annoy me. Because while there are positives to the game and it can be enjoyable at times, the negatives suck the very soul out of the gameplay experience. To preface, I'm not trying to present both sides. And in the end, I just don't feel like it was worth it. I checked all of the reviews before buying and waited for BF to get a good deal. This is probably a cross between a rant and an actual constructive review but I wanted to get my opinion out there for anyone considering getting NFS: Hot Pursuit Remastered.
